For the ninth consecutive year, MRT has been awarded the coveted Outstanding SEMA Design Achievement Award. The latest award winner is the MRT Performance 2012 Ford Mustang V6 “TKO”, a street-legal, open track racer loaded with the latest performance parts from MRT and other SEMA member performance companies.
The Mustang “TKO” starts with Ford’s 3.7L Ti-VCT V-6, six-speed manual gearbox with the MRT-added MGW short throw shifter. MRT engineers selected a ProCharger air-to-air supercharger package and the new MRT V6 Max-Flo H-Pipe and MRT Interceptor axle-back exhaust system. With over 400 horsepower, a SPEC low-mass performance clutch transfers the power, while a Dynotech one-piece driveshaft delivers the extra horses to Eaton E-locker carrier and Ford Racing Performance Parts rear axle.
The MRT-tuned chassis featured H&R Performance coilover suspension with Baer six-piston calipers and 14-inch rotors that keep the “TKO” well balanced and capable of superior braking performance. The MRT brake ducts and cooling fans keep the brakes cool under the most demanding conditions. To keep the differential cool, MRT designed a unique cooling system that includes ducts molded into the rear quarter inserts in the place of the Mustang’s rear quarter windows. Custom cooling hoses extend from the ducts to the diff.
Exterior styling includes functional features. MRT designed and built  the front splitter and custom hood with heat extractors. The APR Performance rear wing aids track performance, while the MRT custom paint and effects provides a special look to the “TKO.” The Mustang V-6 “TKO” rides on Forgestar F14 18 inch wheels equipped with 265/40/18 front, 295/35/18 rear Toyo Proxes 1 performance radials.
Scott Hoag and the TKO were invited to be a part of the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge. “We wanted to test the new MRT products in a competitive environment that the Optima Challenge presents,” he explained. “We were pleased with the amount of data we were able to acquire during all phases of the Optima Challenge, it was a fun day at the race track.”
MRT, headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan is a performance company aftermarket engineering, customization and sales company that specializes in automotive exhaust, styling and performance.
