The National Muscle Car Association racing season got underway in Bradenton, Florida and Mustangs were plentiful in victory lane celebrations. Teams obviously did their homework in the off-season as cars were very fast from the qualifying through elimination rounds.
Willard Kinzer set the fast time in the Mickey Thompson Tires Super Street division with a downright evil 6.66 running in qualifying at a speed of 225.84 miles per hour.
Tony Alm won the Stainless Works Street Outlaw class by knocking off fast qualifier Dwayne Barbaree in the division that saw racers from five states in competition.
In the MagnaFuel Open Comp, Greg Bagnell claimed the victory over Susan McClenaghan in an all-Mustang final. Bagnell of Spring Hill, Florida, piloted his ’86 Mustang over McClenaghan’s 2010 Pony.
Chris Escobar was the overall winner in the Gear Vendors True Street Class with an 8.121 average on three passes in his ’86 Mustang. Chris Morris claimed the 13-second class with a 13.005 average in a 2012 Mustang.
The NMCA will move on to Atlanta Dragway April 10-13 for the second event of the 2014 season. Information can be found at www.nmcadigital.com
