The automotive aftermarket industry is mourning the loss of one of its own. Todd Gartshore of Baer Brakes passed away last weekend.
For those who were fortunate enough to work with Todd, we found a caring individual who truly knew what made enthusiasts tick. His knowledge was vast, though his demeanor was one of sheer enjoyment. Todd had fun with his work and wanted everyone to enjoy it.
My greatest personal memory comes from the 2010 Motorsports Parts Manufacturers’ Council (MPMC) media conference. In our allotted time, we talked about the composition of brake pads. Todd related how the brake pads are composed of any number of different materials, all with a purpose. Too much of one, the pad fades faster. Too much of another and the stopping is just not right. It was insight that remains valuable because it helped me understand why they work the way they do and why some cost more than others.
Todd’s work touched many and our memories of Todd will remain for a long time. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, co-workers and compatriots in this game. We will carry on as he would have wished, but there’s a bright star missing from the sky.
