Quality Cars Available Soon
Larry Jewett - January 04, 2012 08:00 AM
The 2012 Mecum Kissimmee Auction will feature cars from the personal collections of individuals who have dedicated their lives to finding quality cars. A case in point: Charles Ungurean.
For Charles Ungurean, building his extensive collection of fabulous automobiles has always boiled down to one basic principle: find the very best. These twelve Corvettes from the Ungurean Collection meet that definitive standard, each in its own way. For instance, the expertly restored 1953 roadster, production serial number 153, earned the Gold Spinner Award in 2008; the twin 427 Tri Power Black-on-Saddle 1967 Sting Rays constitute perhaps the finest and rarest such pairing in existence, and the Elkhart Green 1971 LT1 coupe is an entirely original car that counts the NCRS 5-Star Bowtie Award, Duntov Award of Excellence and Bloomington Gold Benchmark and Survivor® Awards among its many accolades. Every one of these fine Corvettes is of similarly exceptional quality, together constituting a virtual treasure trove for the dedicated collector.
One of only 300 produced in its historic first year, this 1953 Corvette roadster has been restored in body-off fashion for excellent presentation in fresh Polo White with Sportsman Red interior, new black soft top, very nice chrome trim and brightwork and correct Firestone Deluxe Champion Whitewall tires. Like all first-year Corvettes this beautifully detailed ‘53 is powered by the famed 235/150 HP Blue Flame Six engine fitted with triple Carter sidedraft carbs and backed with a 2-speed Powerglide transmission.
1996 Grand Sport
This 1996 Corvette Grand Sport convertible is one of only 190 built and one of only 53 with the optional Torch Red leather interior. Made all the more exclusive by virtue of its Corvette Museum delivery history and exceptionally low 86-mile odometer reading, it features Admiral Blue paint with White GS stripes and Red hash marks, the powerful 350/330 HP LT4 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, F45 selective real time suspension dampening, dual 6-way power seats, power locks and windows and air conditioning. Documentation includes the rare factory Grand Sport brochure.
Built in an extremely limited edition of 399 cars, the 2007 Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Championship Z06 is the first autographed special edition Z06, and the first Corvette decorated with the Canadian flag, which is subtly worked into the fender stripes that recall the legendary Gran Sport. The Fellows Edition Z06 is also the only Z06 finished in Arctic White. The car is powered by a 512-horsepower LS7 V8 hooked to a six-speed transmission. It is capable of 199 mph and can rocket from zero to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
This brand new 2007 Ron Fellows Special Edition Z06 Corvette is number 123 in the series and comes with the 2LZ equipment group, navigation, head-up display, dual zone air conditioning, carbon fiber hood and fenders and rear spoiler. With only 18 miles on the odometer it still wears the original factory protective plastic on the seats and carpets and includes a letter of authenticity and Ron Fellows’ autograph on the center console.
The Mecum auction will be held at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida, January 24-29. Complete information is available at www.mecum.com
