For the past 40 years, Carlisle Events and the Miller families have been recognized countless times for their community and industry-specific achievements. There have been citations, commendations, proclamations and inclusion into multiple halls of fame. Now, one of Carlisle's founding fathers, Bill Miller, Jr., has received an honor showcasing his passion for aiding the community. The honor comes via the Distinguished Community Service Award and was presented by the Leadership Cumberland Board of Directors at the graduation of The Fellows of 2013 on Thursday, May 23, 2013.
The Distinguished Community Service Award is for volunteering and giving back to the community.  The award has been presented annually to deserving leaders making a difference in the central Pennsylvania region and it isn't the first time that Miller has been spotlighted for his charitable work.
"Somewhere I heard that the first third of your life you learn, the second third of your life you earn and the presumed final third of your life you give back," noted Miller.  "This was true with me but I freely admit that I would have been better off to have learned to volunteer earlier in life. Helping and giving back is so rewarding," continued Miller. "This type of work has helped surround me with a core group of friends who also volunteer and that provides a network in the community to make it a better place. If you think you can't make a difference, just volunteer at church, any non-profit organization, or service clubs and see what a difference your input makes."
"Leadership Cumberland is very proud to honor Bill Miller with the Distinguished Community Service Award," said Bets McManus, Executive Director.  "Bill is one of those quiet and humble leaders who make such a difference every day through their business and volunteer endeavors.  It is a pleasure to showcase him as a role model for the emerging leaders graduating in the class of the Fellows of 2013.  We thank him for his service and commitment to leadership and ensuring a good quality of life for all.”
