Solid Performers at Mecum

The General Motors heritage was evident in the number of quality cars that were seen at the 2014 Mecum Kissimmee auction. Many of the cars easily hit their projected targets and both buyer and seller were happy with the outcome.
While the Chevrolet Corvette is a member of the GM family, the performance of the Corvette deserves its own spotlight. Watch the next day news for the Corvette performance at Mecum.
1) 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro, 12,600 Original Miles (Lot S168) – Sold for $235,000
Super Car Workshop owner and respected Yenko judge and restorer Brian Henderson described it as “one of the best I have examined in recent years.” This 1969 Yenko Camaro was assembled the second week of February 1969 in the second run of Yenko production and finished in Hugger Orange with a Black vinyl roof, D80 spoiler, the very rare VE3 body color front bumper and standard Black interior. It carries a correctly dated replacement short block with and a warranty replacement four-speed transmission. It is listed in both the COPO and Yenko Registries.
2) 1969 Chevrolet Camaro L89 Coupe, JL8 4-Wheel Disc Brakes (Lot S139) – Sold for $200,000
The L89 aluminum head big block V-8 was a rare option on the 1969 Camaro. This car is one of 311 produced and believed to be the only one with its particular combination of options. It was rotisserie restored with correctly date coded and numbered NOS parts and components. Factory documentation includes the Protect-O-Plate, broadcast sheet, invoice sheet, window sticker, delivery checklist and owner's manual.
3) 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro, 427/450 HP, Four-Speed (Lot F188) – Sold for $177,500
The car features the Fathom Green body color with the black top and black interior. The original factory engine was replaced by Yenko with a period-correct COPO 9561 L72 mated to a four-speed transmission. It has been documented by the COPO connection and is listed in the Super Car Registry. It was one of 100 COPOs ordered by Yenko in November 1968 and one of 171 four-speeds for 1969.
4) 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Seville Coupe, 365/300 HP, Automatic (Lot S187) – Sold for $150,000
Cadillac had completely redesigned the highly successful Eldorado for 1957, making it more distinguishable from its less glamorous stable mates. One of only 2,100 built from a total of 114,467 1957 Cadillacs, this Eldorado Seville coupe sold new for the then-princely sum of $6,700 dollars. It has been the subject of a no-expense-spared nine year frame-off nut and bolt restoration costing over $370,000 and documented with every receipt. Its Copper Metallic paint is complemented with a unique padded vinyl roof and a matching interior finished in correct Copper leather and fabric upholstery.
5) 1970 Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air IV, Original Drivetrain (Lot F232) – Sold for $147,500
Pontiac stylists and aerodynamicists took a typically much more aggressive approach with the Trans Am in 1970, including the dramatic “Screaming Chicken” hood decal as a graphic exclamation point. The 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am’s new suspension and quicker steering also set a new standard of performance handling. This rare 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is one of only 29 to leave the factory equipped with the muscular Ram Air IV 400/370 HP engine mated with a Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.
6) 1969 Pontiac Trans Am, 400 CI, 4-Speed (Lot F198.1) – Sold for $125,000
Truly a lot to like about the earliest versions of the Trans Am. This model is equipped with the Ram Air III 400 engine and connected to a four-speed transmission. There were only 520 cars built this way in 1969. It has been carefully restored on a rotisserie to allow the car to remain a time capsule for Pontiac performance for years to come. Documentation from Pontiac Historical Society gives the buyer assurance.
7) 1969 Pontiac Trans Am Coupe, One Owner Car (Lot F219) – Sold for $125,000
One of only 697 built, this 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am spent its entire life in California and Arizona and is rust free with only 13,216 miles on the odometer. It has always been maintained by the same mechanic, a fact that helps explain how the car has survived these 45 years with its original components. It is one of the most original and correct Trans Ams in existence. Receipts for all the work, which total more than $15,000, are included with the car. Rare, highly original, correct and fully documented, this is everything the avid Trans Am collector is looking for.
8) 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Resto Mod, 572 CI, Five-Speed (Lot F245) – Sold for $115, 000
A gorgeous Black on Black color scheme accented with glittering Billet Specialties wheels fronting Baer four-wheel power disc brakes are the first hints that this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is a top-line restomod. Its handsome good looks are matched by solid road holding courtesy of steel body mounts and subframe connectors teamed with a hydro-formed front subframe, four-link rear mini-tub kit, power steering and low profile Michelin tires. It is the ride Chevy and Camaro fans will want to have when the weekend tour gets under way.
9) 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible, 350/355 HP, Automatic (Lot F246) – Sold for $115,000
An extensive nut and bolt restomod build was completed on this sparkling 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible in 2001. Passengers are treated to a full complement of custom features inside, including power windows and a power front seat. Street and Performance detailed the 350 CI ZZ4 crate engine, smoothing the block and polishing the heads to a mirror shine.
10) 1970 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV, 400/370 HP, Four-Speed (Lot F233.1) – Sold for $111,000
The Ram Air evolved by 1970 to the Ram Air IV version with four-bolt mains, round port heads and a weight-saving aluminum intake manifold with four-barrel carburetion. One of only 627 built, it runs under the power of its original matching numbers WW-code Ram Air IV 400/370 HP V-8, backed by the original four-speed manual transmission and 3.90 Safe-T-Track rear differential. It shows a believed correct 72,630 miles and comes with owner history back to the 1970s, including its previous owner who purchased the car in 1986 at the tender age of 16 and kept it for the next 26 years.
