1 The Lake Mirror Classic features great cars from every decade of manufacture with plenty of cars from the ’50s and ’60s joining in, many parked along the Lakeland streets.

2 Cars can be parked by clubs or designation. If you’re looking for Corvettes, most are in the shade of Kentucky Avenue.

3 Cars being offered for sale by owner are found in a parking lot and most have the prices right on them. There was a distinct variety.

4 One of the cars offered for sale was a ’57 Chevy wagon, simply not something you see every day (unless you happen to own one. If you don’t, here’s your chance).

5 & 6 Misfortune struck this Chevy and its owner as the car lost a left front hubcap in transit. By the end of the day, there’s a good chance someone had offered one for sale to the owner, who was in the market for a replacement.

7 Many of the car owners took advantage of the shade, as the cars were parked with enough room to allow doors to open and crowds to gather.

8 On Saturday, one of the streets became an auction site. This Mustang didn’t sell, but plenty of others provoked some spirited bidding in getting new homes.

9 A visit to the Lake Mirror Classic is not complete without the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. This sent us looking for the food vendors, which were easy to find.

10 Gary Kelly has a great collection of AMC cars like “The Machine”. He also has a ’67 Marlin that will be featured in Auto Enthusiast Weekly (free download for Apple and Android devices).

12 The Lake Mirror Classic offered a display of golden anniversary cars like this ’62 Corvette. The sign in the center of the display offered interesting facts about life in 1962.

Perfect weather helped, but the highest quality of cars can be the greatest element for determining success of an event.

The 2012 Lake Mirror Classic, held in Lakeland, Florida, was once again a winning combination that drew top names and huge crowds.

The three-day event centers around Lake Mirror, which is conveniently located adjacent to the downtown business district and offers plenty of space to display cars in grassy areas that ring the body of water. The weekend started with the Budweiser Hot Rod Rendevous on Friday night, a concert and car show, with the stipulation that the cars had to be rods or customs that were built before 1960. When the band took a break, the night air was filled with the sounds of the engines as these cars revved up and the sound reverberated across the water. This year’s Friday event also included a new car session where local dealers could unveil their 2013 models to the crowd.

The show expands to its primary day on Saturday with the downtown streets blocked off to become the parking place for classics and muscle cars. The cars that take spots around the lake are carefully selected and often include very rare and pristine restorations. Nearly 600 cars make up the viewing that is enjoyed by young and old. Open to domestic and foreign cars, an interesting mix provides the perfect place for parents and grandparents to share their car knowledge with the next generation.

During the afternoon, cars are offered at auction with frenzied bidding at times. Nearby, a parking lot served as the home for cars being offered for sale by their owners without the assistance of auction. A Saturday afternoon awards ceremony saw winners parade by the stage to receive beautiful trophies specially designed for each year of the Lake Mirror Classic. These trophies have become cherished additions to award collections.

On Sunday, participants were invited to be a part of a Sunday Morning Road Tour and Fun Rally, that included a brunch and opportunity to win prizes.

An event of this size takes a great amount of planning and the work is underway for 2013. The 14th Lake Mirror Classic will be held on October 18-19, so make plans to see it in person.
