The mission statement of the Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Henry T. Scatz Boys & Girls Club director Gary Klein hoped to do just that by setting up tours of local businesses to show youngsters about job opportunities that were in the area.

One such tour happened at Griot's Garage. Volunteer members of the junior staff, including program director Donell Morgan and teen director Julian Samuel, started off touring the corporate offices in Tacoma, Washington. The excitewment started to build as the group entered the automotive display, which is open to the public. This brought an excited reaction from the kids.

What they didn't know was happening next. The third stop was the private garage of Richard Griot, an area that is not open to the public. This stop was punctuated by collection curator Tim Willard talking about several of the cars and opening up hoods and doors for the kids to peek in.

Finishing out the day wsa a lesson on how to quick detail a car in the Car Care School. The kids took to detailing and made quick work of spiffing up a car on display. After the car was clean, each member of the group received a goodie bag with car care products to use to work on their skills.

A great group of appreciative, inquisitive, curious, well-mannered kids left Griot's garage excited about the cars they saw and the experience they had, but also about having been given a little more empowerment to help them on their path fo reaching their full potential.
