Ken Poteet of Dalton, Georgia, introduced his daughter, McKinley, to tinkering with cars when she was very young.  McKinley has worked with her dad over the years, starting out by handing him wrenches.  On her 16th birthday, she received a 1978 Camaro as a gift from her uncle, who had this gem baking in the sun for 15 years.
With a new Camaro project, Ken and McKinley turned to Eastwood for supplies to get it underway.  While at it, they entered Eastwood’s Father’s Day contest.  As the Grand Prize winner, Ken will receive $2,000 worth of GearWrench® tools.
On June 1, 2012 a panel of Eastwood judges selected the finalists.  Voting by customers and visitors to the Eastwood website selected Ken and McKinley the Grand Prize winners.
When Ken got notice of their win, he said he was thrilled and amazed at winning. ”I haven’t purchased any new tools in about 15 years. These will come in handy getting McKinley’s ‘new’ 78 Camaro in prime condition. It’s a pretty nice Father’s Day gift as well.”
McKinley wants to get it done before senior year of high school but Dad wants to do more than just a paint job.  “I’m going to build it from the ground up.”
With a project that has sat for this long, the first thing they tackled was removing the gas tank, cleaning it, and painting it with Eastwood’s Tank Tone gas tank paint.  Next, they are pulling the axle out and will begin the job of dealing with rust.  They are going to start with Eastwood’s Rust Encapsulator.
Ken mentioned that the tools he prizes most are the impact sockets and the ratchet wrenches.  He’s always been frustrated putting on a socket and not being able to get at it at the right angle.
Ryan Chartrand of Grafton, Massachusetts, and his son won second place with his 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.  Shane Mason of Elkton, Maryland, and his two-year-old daughter, Mai Ly, won third place.  Shane, with the help of Daddy’s little girl, performed a brake job on his 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 24 hours before being deployed to Afghanistan for a year.
The 2012 Eastwood Father’s Day $4000 GearWrench® Giveaway is Eastwood’s way of wishing all of the hardworking Fathers out there a Happy Father’s Day.
