With just a little time to celebrate their successes and championships, the Mopar racing teams are gearing up for the next racing campaign for the National Hot Rod Association. The 2014 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will kick off with the 54th annual Winternationals at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, California. That event takes place February 6-9.
Mopar power dominated the Pro Stock category in 2013 as Jeg Coughlin Jr. won his fifth championship with 2012 champ Allen Johnson staking second. The feat marked the first time that Mopar has won back-to-back championships in more than 20 years. The Mopar crowd is looking for the three-peat in 2014.
Matt Hagan will try to move one spot up the Funny Car ladder to claim a championship in 2014. Hagan snared five event wins in 2013 to roll to a second place in the final standings.
Coughlin will be out to avenge a red-light loss in the finals of the 2013 Winternationals. Hagan was eliminated in round two by eventual winner Courtney Force in Funny Car action at the event.
