Corvette Racing claimed the first victory for the seventh generation Corvette C7.R in dominant fashion in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. Taking the victory were the 2013 American Le Mans Series GT champions Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia. The victory on the 1.968-mile circuit was the fifth GT category win for Corvette at Long Beach in eight years and the first win for the newest generation Corvette in its first season of competition.
Garcia’s move on the opening lap opened the door for a breakthrough victory for the new Chevrolet Corvette C7.R.Driving the No. 3 Corvette, qualified on the GT Le Mans pole by Magnussen, Garcia overtook a pair of Prototypes shortly after the start.
“I knew I had to get ahead of those Prototypes,” Garcia said. “It was a little bit of risk to start with – I went into Turn 1 with everything locked – but it paid off pretty good, we were able to get a pretty good lead.”
Corvette Racing set the fastest lap in its GT class at Long Beach every year since 2007. Tommy Milner extended that streak in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R with the best GTLM lap of the race en route to a third-place result alongside co-driver Oliver Gavin.
Corvettes claimed two podium spots in Prototype with second and third place runs.
All TUDOR Championship classes will be back in action at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday, May 4 for the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix Powered by Mazda.
