The weather couldn’t dampen the Corvette enthusiasm

Saturday’s skies couldn’t keep enthusiasts away and the showfield filled up early.
The ’64 Corvettes were honored in the Featured Display.
The 2015 Z06 was quite popular and wherever GM displayed it, a crowd was soon to follow. Corvette Assembly Plant Manager, Jeff Lamarche leads a walk-around of the new model for attendees.
Seminars are always big at Carlisle and Paul Koerner held technical sessions all weekend long, trouble-shooting and de-ciphering issues for enthusiasts.
The Corvette Challenge cars had special recognition for their accomplishments.
The mid-engined CERV-II was on hand and enthusiasts could take in the sights and sounds as it was fired several times during the event.
John Drahos, from Cleveland, OH had this awesome ’57 on hand. He’s owned it for over 40 years and recently pulled it from storage and decided to start driving it. John’s “less than buffed” Corvette won our Celebrity’s Choice award.
What you wouldn’t expect to see is this electronic fuelie system designed as a throw-back to those fabulous fuelies of yesteryear. Custom touches and a clean install give it a vintage feel with modern-day drivability.
Enthusiasts were enjoying driving the autocross the entire weekend, proving that these cars were meant to be driven.
Street Shop Inc. had this fabulous C3 built by Lucky’s Restorations. Many enthusiasts are upgrading the vintage chassis of their rides so they can get the newer handling and performance.
Other enthusiasts prefer the original ride of their early Corvettes and there were plenty of opportunities to take home a fine specimen.
The swap-meet was full of both vintage and late-model parts for those with cars back home.
For those who collect signatures instead of cars, these valve covers would make for a fine start. Names of notables like Tom Wallace, Harlan Charles, Lance Miller, Kirk Bennion, Dave McLellan, Tadge Juechter, Mario Andretti and Reeves Callaway adorn these two covers.

Attendees were treated to the fabulous sounds of the Racer’s Reunion running down through the fairgrounds on their way to the Expo Center for a special Saturday-night dinner.
Performances were not lacking during the Saturday-night parade through downtown. Many viewers lined the somewhat-soggy, grassy roadsides to watch the parade weave its way through town.

The schedule of events showed for this year’s Corvettes at Carlisle event to be quite a memorable one.
Amid all the seminars, showfields, installs, exhibits and smokeshows, attendees could experience some of the newest, rarest, fastest, cleanest and coolest Corvettes on the planet. They could also take home some of those most-needed parts to complete their projects back home in their garages.
Not all the wrenching was waiting to be done back home though. Late-model Corvette owners could give their rides that true performance sound via the several suppliers who were installing performance exhaust systems on site. Owners of C4 Corvettes kept a close eye on Chris Petris and company as they spent most of Friday and Saturday swapping out a 1990 Corvette’s tired L98 engine for a more potent LS1 engine. Many expressed interest in gaining some horsepower and a few MPGs by doing this swap and Chris was on hand to answer any questions and help them toward their desired goal.
Amid the puddles of liquid sunshine and ever-handy chamois, the fun-field turned out filled with Corvettes from every color of the spectrum, with finishes ranging from dusty to must-see. This year’s featured ride was ANY 1964 Corvette with the CERV II “experimental” Corvette taking front stage. A special display was assembled to bring other notable examples of this vintage into easy viewing. Other displays highlighting various Corvettes were the Race Car Reunion, which housed some of the rarest and highest performing Corvettes throughout history, and the Corvette Challenge display, which honored these C4-based racers for their exciting competitiveness and domination of other classes, which led to their relegation to a Corvette-only class.
More than a static event, there were engine-revving exhibitions to honor Chip Miller, the late co-founder of Carlisle Events. Corvettes had free roam over the entire fairgrounds and the town of Carlisle was humming with the sound of V-8 power over the three-day event, especially during Saturday’s Corvette-only parade. Engine revving and tire-life-shortening exhibitions littered the parade route, which ended in a static display of Corvettes in downtown Carlisle.
Sunday was a new day, and the skies cleared up with sunshine and chamber-of-commerce temps for those enduring attendees longing to reap that last ounce of fun from the fun-field. As the sun set across the showfield, exhausted enthusiasts set their GPSs homeward-bound in their possibly, newly-exhausted Corvettes, filled with the fun times the weekend provided and looking forward to next year’s event, which will be held on August 28-30, 2015.
