Effingham, Illinois, will soon see thousands of Corvettes and enthusiasts gather at the Largest Corvette Party in the World, the annual Corvette Funfest at Mid America Motorworks.  The 19th annual gala features four days of cars, rock and rock and a passion for the hobby. With daily non-juried Celebrity Choice Awards, Corvette Club activities, a Saturday fashion show and a headlining Saturday night concert, Corvette Funfest is not your standard car show.
This year, Corvette Funfest is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1963 Sting Ray Corvette. The Sting Ray coupe and convertible incorporated concepts from two GM projects, the Q-Corvette and Bill Mitchell’s racing Stingray, which makes it one of the most impressive sports car designs of its time. Unique to the year 1963 was the split window design of which only 10,594 were made. Attendees can stroll through some 15,000 Corvettes, including special display parking on the show field for 1963 Sting Rays.
Set for September 13-16, Corvette Funfest kicks off Thursday with a fun run road tour from Mid America Motorworks campus to downtown Effingham for a street party, sponsored by Effingham Convention & Visitors Bureau. Friday evening, Funfest will host a special screening of “The Quest” at Effingham Performance Center. The screening includes appearances by produced Michael Brown, Lance Miller and Mid America Motorworks chief Cheerleader Mike Yager, as well as the chance to attend a black-tie optional cocktail party, raising funds for the chip Miller Charitable foundation and Trail Recreation Effingham County.
As always, guests at Corvette Funfest can look forward to an unforgettable Saturday night concert on Mid America Motorworks’ main stage, one of the most anticipated events of the weekend. Other highlights for the weekend will include expert seminars, Corvette performance upgrades in the Install Dome, lifestyle products in the Fun Dome, a 5k run-walk, Celebrity Choice judging, fashion show and GM Kids in Corvettes.
Back again for the second year are the commemorative Funfest cups. Pepsi will once again co-sponsor the commemorative cups that will reflect this year’s 1963 Sting Ray theme and include free soft drink refills after purchase throughout the weekend.
Collectible guitar lapel pins are also back this year. The blue and red collectible guitar pins were such a hit for pre-registration last year that two new colors, orange and black, have been introduced for the 2013 pre-registrations. The only way to receive these guitar pins during Funfest weekend is to pre-register for Corvette Funfest 2013.
Corvette Funfest 2012 will take place on Mid America Motorworks’ 150-acre campus. With the number of attendees growing every year, it is anticipated that well over 40,000 patrons will travel from all over the world for a weekend that any automotive enthusiast would enjoy.
