Coming to AutoFair
Meet Real Moonshiners
Larry Jewett - August 23, 2013 10:37 AM
Fans attending the Sept. 19-22 AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway will get the chance to meet stars from the Discovery Channel hit television show “Moonshiners”.
In conjunction with a special moonshining vehicle display in the Showcase Pavilion, fans can get autographs from moonshiners Josh and Bill, two colorful characters whose trials and tribulations in setting up a still and running moonshine in rural Appalachia have been documented for the popular series. Autograph sessions, presented by Ole Smoky Moonshine, the official moonshine of Charlotte Motor Speedway, will take place on Friday, Sept. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m.
“Moonshiners” tells the story of individuals who brew their moonshine in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and North and South Carolina. Before becoming a moonshiner, Josh, who splits his time between North and South Carolina, had a career as a professional superbike and motocross racer. These days, in addition to shinin’ and being a lumberjack, he still rides around on a motorcycle with dog Cutie Pie, whom he rescued from a shelter. Cutie Pie, a favorite on the show, will also be joining him at the AutoFair. Bill is known on the show for being musically inclined, playing the fiddle with local country music bands when he isn’t moonshining with Josh. Bill lives in South Carolina.
The Charlotte AutoFair annually attracts more than 100,000 visitors, features nearly 50 car club displays and offers a surplus of automotive parts and memorabilia for sale or trade. There’s also a collector car auction conducted by Dealer Auctions Inc., and more than 1,500 collectible vehicles of all makes and models will be available for sale in the car corral that rings the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
Fall AutoFair is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For information, visit www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.
