Hagerty has announced the return of the “Search for America’s sweetest Lemon”, a contest to find America’s quirkiest car. The winning car and owner of the second annual event will be celebrated as “America’s Sweetest Lemon” and serve as grand marshal for Hagerty’s Tour of Lemons in Monterey, California, on August 18. Last year’s winner was lifelong AMC fan Harris Goodkind and his 1975 Pacer.
Hagerty’s Tour of Lemons will travel through downtown Monterey and along the world-renowned 17-Mile Drive. This tour was created as a counterpoint to the popular, but more prestigious, automotive events that make up “Monterey Classic Car Week” in northern California every August.
“We believe all cars are beautiful and deserve to be celebrated,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty. “This is an opportunity to showcase these eccentric, quirky and weird vehicles. Many cars that were once viewed as hopeless now enjoy an enthusiastic, cult-like following.”
Lemon owners can submit a photo of their car and a brief description of why it deserves to be christened “America’s Sweetest Lemon.” Photos and stories of the top 10 candidates will be posted for public voting from July 11-20 at Submissions can be sent to by Sunday, July 8.
Hagerty is the world’s leading insurance agency for classic vehicles and host to the largest network of classic car owner. For more information, call (800) 922-4050 or visit
