There was no shortage of smiling faces and happy people at the 2012 Corvette funfest at Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, Illinois. The annual event was once again a huge success with a wide slate of activity that appealed to everyone.
The four-day event kicked off Thursday with a Fun Run and downtown party and closed off Sunday with the final round of celebrity picks and seminars. In between, the action was nearly non-stop.
The 19th event offered plenty to see and do for all interests. A vast Corvette showfield was well-populated, especially on Saturday. For those looking to buy their first Corvette or add to their collection, there was a great variety in the cars for Sale. Anyone looking to gain valuable knowledge needed only to spend a few hours in the seminar village, were experts were ready to share what they knew and answer any questions. Over at the install Dome, exhaust systems, exterior modifications and other projects were keeping technicians busy. There were no shortage of shopping opportunities with a vendor field and display tents open for business.
Away from the actual field, a short walk led you to the Performance Choice manufacturing facility and the MY Museum, both open for self-guided tours. Along the way, the 1960 class-winning Le Mans Corvette, subject of the documentary The Quest, could be viewed. On Saturday, a time capsule was dedicated, to be buried at a later date and opened to celebrate the Corvette’s 100th anniversary in 2053.
The Saturday night action saw the stage come to life with the music of the World Classic Rockers, a band composed of former members of Boston, Journey, Steppenwolf, Santana and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The appreciative crowd thrilled to the music in celebration of a good time.
It has been said that once you visit a Corvette funfest, you make it a regular happening. With cars from 37 states and seven foreign countries, it’s pretty obvious that that holds true. The Yager family at Mid America Motorworks really know how to throw a party.
