While driving to the Kelsey Tire Open House event earlier this month, we ran into a group of Corvettes headed to or from the largest family cruise in Missouri.

According to an area vacation guide, the “Hot Summer Nights”: (www.cruisehotsummernights.com) events pack the Bagnell Dam Strip with vintage cars on select Friday nights during the summer and draw thousands of people to the Lake of the Ozarks area. They also came for the Magic Dragon Street Meet Nationals (www.MagicDragonCarShow.com)
The Friday night cruises are unique because each one has a different theme. May was the kick-off cruise. On June 13, Hot Summer Nights will present “The Lake Salutes Route 66.” The Missouri Route 66 Association will be present, along with the Route 66 Visitor Centers at Conway on I-44. Route 66 Associations from Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma have been invited. The National Full Size 1965 & 1966 Full Size Chevy Club will also be in town.
On July 11, the Hot Summer Nights theme will be “A Salute to the Muscle Car Era.” The August 8 theme will be from the movie “Grease” and the Ozarks Community Dance Project will perform to tunes from that musical. The final cruise on Sept. 5 will have the theme “Vettes for Veterans.” The Lake of the Ozarks Corvette Club will parade the veterans down Bagnell Dam Blvd.
