The mission was simple. Jerry Barding of Delray Beach, Florida, was looking for a project 1963 Corvette 327 split window Sting Ray to restore and cruise on the weekends.

Barding went on the Internet and read through the pages of eBay to see what he could find. He found a 1963 327 Corvette in Texas that looked to be in pretty good condition.

After calling the owner and negotiating a fair price, Jerry had the car transported to his home. After a few weeks behind the wheel, Jerry decided the car really needed a full frame-off restoration to bring it back to factory specs, inside and out.

Jerry drove the car over to Cruisers Motor Works and Body Shop in his hometown. This full frame-off restoration took two years to complete. By looking at the car, it was definitely worth it.

The engine makes 340 horsepower, with a Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor and solid lifters connected to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission. Richard at Cruisers did all of the engine, transmission, suspension, dual exhaust and four-wheel drum brake rebuilding, using original GM parts sourced from Long Island Corvette and Eckler’s Corvette. The aluminum valve covers came from Paragon Corvette Restorations. This stunning car rides on BFGoodrich 15-inch tires with bright SS hubcaps with the Chevy Corvette logo inscribed with black lettering.

The interior was completely gutted and rebuilt also using original GM Corvette replacement parts, nuts, springs and screws. The original seats were restored, then the seat covers cut and applied by Bob Housley Interiors, located just across the street from Cruisers.

After all of the mechanical and interior work was completed, Cruisers custom painted the car the proper GM code 923 Riverside Red that really lights up the car when cruising in the bright south Florida sun.

This fully restored 1963 Corvette Sting Ray is a work of art and has won “Top Flight” at a recent NCRS event in Kissimmee, Florida; “Best In Class” at a previous Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance; and “Best In Class” at the Ocean Reef Club’s Vintage Weekend in Key Largo, a world-famous four-day celebration of antique planes, automobiles and boats.
