McGaugh Yard Sells Whole Vehicles

This 1957 Ford Custom 300 has been the recipient of donor parts in the past.

1 This 1955 Chevrolet Two-Ten four-door sedan was repossessed and, when loading on the transport, found to be without brakes.  It has remained on the transport ever since.

2  Even with some side chrome missing, this 1956 Mercury Monterey would make a great parts car, or might even be restorable.

3 This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 still has its Thunderbird Special V-8 engine under the hood and is equipped with an automatic transmission.

4  A 1952 Oldsmobile 98 two-door hardtop would make an excellent parts car.

5  This 1952 Super 88 Oldsmobile would make a mighty fine parts car.  The outside sun visor is nice and straight, but needs the bright work re-chromed.

6  This 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan was in Florida when payments stopped.  McGaugh’s dad decided to make the trip to Florida to get the car. The whole family went and made a vacation out of it. After the vacation, the Lincoln was hitched to their ’56 Cadillac and towed back.

7  There is a lot of good trim and other parts available on this 1959 Ford Galaxie 500.

8  A tornado roared through the area a few years ago, damaging several cars.  Big limbs on this uprooted tree hit the ground first and kept it from crushing a 1949 Chrysler New Yorker.

9  This 1947 Studebaker Champion Regal Deluxe featured stainless trim around the windshield and stainless steel rocker panel moldings.

10  A 1941 Plymouth two-door sedan has good trim and other parts remaining on it.

11  A persimmon tree has grown between the bumper and grill of a 1939 Dodge.

12  This 1956 Pontiac 860 station wagon has some good back side glass and lots of other parts remaining.

13  A 1949 Chevrolet coupe is in pretty rough shape with a buckled frame, but it comes with a spotlight and a clip-on outside rear view mirror.

14  Studebaker’s first two-door hardtop was introduced in 1952.  A few briars will need to be cut before you can get to this one.

15  Some engine parts have been removed from the six-cylinder under the hood, but there are plenty of nice body parts left on a 1961 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan.

16  The base model One Fifty 1953 Chevrolet features a rubber windshield molding and rubber fender shields on the outside.  The frugal look continues on the inside with a standard steering wheel, plain upholstery and single sun visor.

 17  A 1959 Rambler Super has a fairly decent body.

18  A 1956 DeSoto Fireflite hardtop would be an excellent source of parts.

19  There may be a few trim parts available on this rusty 1957 Plymouth Savoy sedan.

20  It appears that high winds bent the windshield visor to a straight up position on this 1950 Studebaker Champion.

21  The Pioneer is the mid-trim level of the 1960 Dodge Dart.  This one has suffered a substantial blow to the passenger side.

22  Other than rusted rocker panels, this 1959 Edsel Ranger sedan appears to be a fairly solid vehicle.

Johnie V. McGaugh moved back to Benton County, Arkansas, in the early 1940s. While cars were hard to come by in Arkansas because of the war, they were more plentiful in Illinois and Michigan.

McGaugh, along with other local entrepreneurs, would catch a ride in tractor-trailer trucks hauling live poultry to Chicago or Detroit, buy a car or two, and drive and/or tow them back to resell.

McGaugh was soon operating a used car lot, along with his auto repair shop, at his farm. A few years later, McGaugh moved the lot into the town of Springdale. He acquired a couple of vehicle transport trailers to haul his cars and hauled some for other dealers.

Through the years he would take in old vehicles that were dented up, worn-out, or just wouldn’t run. He moved those back to a pasture at his farm since they were, at the time, basically worthless and that’s where they have sat for years. At least four ’50s and ’60s era auto transport trailers are also parked there.

Mr. McGaugh passed away a few years ago. His widow Emma wanted to get rid of some of the cars and raise much needed money for her church. The church was on land donated by her great-grandmother and the building was in bad shape and needed to be replaced. Son Johnie M. McGaugh helped her sell enough cars to fund the new church building. He has also agreed to help his mom sell the vehicles that remain.
