Andy and Lauri Brown in 1984 with MAX.
Andy Brown shares the story of his Mopar:
My wife Lauri and I bought this car shortly after we got married for $1,350 in 1982 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Originally a 440 four-speed Dana 60 car, but when we bought it the factory engine and transmission were long gone. But that didn’t scare me off, since I wanted to make a fun driver built the way we wanted it, but able to be put back stock if we wanted to later. I did the body work on it at our local college in the evening, but had a friend take care of the painting the PP1 Bright Red. I put my own top and headliner in, and the seats are still original, except for a patch on the driver’s seat another friend fixed for me.
It now has a early 426 wedge with a Weiand intake with two 500 cfm Competition carbs that we bought at a speed shop in 1983, and still on there to this day, making this R/T a blast to drive along with the four-speed and 3.54 geared Dana 60 rearend.
We drive it at least two or three days a week to work and go find some nice back country roads to explore on weekends. It’s really hard to get Lauri or I out of it.
This car was clearly used and been through a few owners and changed factory things over the years, so it not at all stock, or a barn find. We love it to the MAX so we called it MAX.
