Prior to the opening of the SEMA show in Las Vegas, the winners of the SEMA AWard for Hottest Vehicles were revealed. The Jeep Wrangler was selected in the 4x4/SUV category with Ford winning the Truck division for the F Series. Chevrolet bested more than a half dozen other doemstic and foreign contenders to win the Car classification with its Camaro for the second consecutive year. In a new category, Sport Compact, Chrysler again took top honors with the Fiat 500.

The idea behind the award is recognizing the cars and trucks that are sensing the trends while also setting the trends. The vehicles earned their honor based on the perception of the industry for product development and consumer interest. Many manufacturers on hand spoke of the position of the SEMA show as the focal point for market development efforts in the year ahead. The winners are simply the ones leading the way while all the contenders have generated an interest in the overall auto scene.
